Which S20 Model is Right For You?

Whew, now that all those specs are out of the way. Here’s the hard part, asking yourself which Samsung S2 Galaxy phone to get?

The Samsung S20 handsets are designed to compete with the likes of Apple’s iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro series, Google’s Pixel as well as Huawei’s more high-end devices.

If you want the best bang for your buck, the Samsung S20 Ultra is what you want. The Ultra promises 100x zoom to satisfy every camera nerd out there. It can also take 108-MP photos! For video recording, it features 8K video recording and a hyper fast 120Hz AMOLED display for excellent video display and gaming. The camera also has a “Single Take” mode, letting you snap 10 photos and four videos at once with just one click.

On the other end, the most affordable of the trio is the Samsung S20. But just because it’s the cheapest of the bunch doesn’t mean it’s the weakest. It’s got a solid set of specs, not to mention an excellent price point (about $1,000 in the US, £799 in the UK and AU $1,349 in Australia.) It comes with a 64 MP back camera with amazing resolution so you can take crisp images anytime. There’s also an upgrade in the camera zoom department with Samsung giving the S20 and S20+ phones, a 30x zoom.

The Samsung S20+ , meanwhile, is for those who want the in-between. It’s not as expensive as the Ultra but has all the bells and whistles you would require from a high-end device. It’s great for influencers or those who love to use their phones all the time. Like the Ultra, the S20+ has an option of higher storage (512 GB) compared to the standard 128 GB. With our video heavy use of smartphones these days, the storage will be a welcome thing.

If you're a fan of taking selfies, you'll be pleased to know that the Samsung S20+ also boasts an impressive camera system that includes a 10-megapixel front-facing camera with 4K video capabilities. This means you can capture stunning, high-quality selfies and even record video in crystal-clear detail. Plus, with the option for higher storage, you'll have plenty of room to store all your photos and videos without having to worry about running out of space.

How To Personalise Your S20 Galaxy Phone

Let’s say you’ve chosen which Samsung Galaxy phone you’re going home with, now you need to tweak some basic settings to make it truly yours. Here are 6 things we recommend you fine-tune once you get your brand-new Samsung handset.

Check the Default Video, Camera and Display Settings

Every Samsung Galaxy S20 has a default of FHD 1080 for its display, even though the phone is capable of WQHD 1440p display. You can change your display settings to the higher resolution if you like so you get the crispiest photos and videos on your screen. The downside to switching it will easily drain your battery life. Keeping it at FHD will help your battery last longer since the processor won’t need to work harder. Also check your camera and video settings. You might need to tweak them depending on whether the resolution of the video or photo matters to you or not.

Switch to the Higher 120Hz Refresh Rate

To get the most out of your Samsung screen, switch from the default 60Hz to the 120Hz the S20 Galaxy line offers. It will give you a smoother and better experience overall. Sure, it will slightly eat up some of the battery life but it’s worth it.

To do this, head to Settings > Display > Motion Smoothness > Tap High Refresh Rate (120 Hz) > Tap Apply. The 120Hz Is only available at FHD 1080p resolution.

Dark Mode is Easier on the Eyes

All iPhone users raved about the dark mode option when it became available in iOS 13 but now you can do it with your Samsung phone too! Dark mode not only makes your screen look sleeker, it’s also great for preserving battery life.

To turn on Night Mode, head to the Notifications Shade > Swipe Down Again, Swipe Left > Tap Dark Mode

Change the Cartoony UI Interface

By default, the Galaxy S20 comes with larger icons. This looks off with the whole sleek look the S20 is projecting. Fix this by changing the grid settings so the icons are smaller. This will also let you fit in more apps to the home screen.

To do this, go to Settings > Display > Home Screen > Home Screen Grid > Tap 5x6 or whichever grid style you want.

Change the Function of the Side Button

Clicking the side button on the S20 brings up Bixby, the equivalent of Siri on Apple. If you use Bixby a lot, then leave this as is. However, if you don’t use the virtual assistant at all, use the side button for something better instead. You can use it for a shortcut to your favorite app or even take you back to the power button.

To do this, go to Settings > Advanced Features > Side Key > Select What You Want to Use the Side Button.

Minimize the Animations on the S20

When using the Android system, you get a lot of these superfluous animations. You can reduce this so your apps open and close more quickly. It also makes you feel as if your S20 is a lot faster.

To get rid of the animations, head to Settings > Advanced Features > Tap Reduce Animations.
