You probably use your iPhone everyday. But, how often do you clean it? Do you even know how to clean it properly?
Believe it or not, it’s a good idea to keep your iPhone clean and free from dirt. Not only is it annoying to have your iPhone 5/5s screen smudged with fingerprints and other icky stuff. But if you leave it as it is, it could become a breeding ground for bacteria. In fact, it’s estimated that an iPhone contains 18 times more bacteria than a toilet handle! Yikes!
So, how do you clean your iPhone? Here are a couple of simple tips you can do:
-
Use a microfiber or lint-free cloth when wiping the screen.
Generally, iPhones are made with oleophobic screens, meaning they repel oil but it doesn’t mean they can’t show marks when you handle your device. If you want to clean it, use a microfiber cloth (there’s usually one that comes with your phone or use the ones with your eyeglasses) to wipe these marks away. If you need some liquid, dampen (don’t soak) one part of the cloth using water and then use the dry area to wipe it off immediately. Use a circular motion with a bit of pressure to remove stubborn smudges. Never ever directly pour liquid to your iPhone! You will kill it.
-
Cotton buds are your friend.
Got crumbs in the headphone jack? How about those hard to reach areas on your iPhone? Yep, those things can be difficult to get to. But fear not! Just grab a cotton bud and you can get rid of those easily.
-
Have it professionally cleaned. (Seriously, you should consider it).
Yep, if you think the device screen is too grimy or you just aren’t confident to clean it yourself, you can check the warranty to see if you can have it professionally cleaned.
Cleaning the device yourself using alcohol or other products is highly discouraged. It’s also best not to use those LCD cleaners since those are made for a different type of screen, unlike the ones you have on your iPhone 5. Truth is, there are plenty of reliable cleaning products in the market as well, just make sure to do your research so they don’t end up damaging your iPhone instead of cleaning it.
Keep these simple tips in mind next time you grab your phone and schedule it for a quick wipe down. Capiche? Good. Tell me, what cleaning tricks do you have up your sleeve?
