Understanding Battery Basics.
Yes, there is such a thing as a right and wrong way of charging your favorite little gadget. I’m certain I’m not the only one who forgets to charge my phone the night before tucking in and finds himself with less than an hour to get the darn thing fully charged before zipping out of the house. Has that ever happened to you? Admit it, I’m not the only who went down this route.
Anyway, when you plug it in, you find that it takes forever to get fully charged. You’re all dressed and ready to bolt yet you’re standing over your phone doing the tappy dances in hopes that the little gods of battery replenishing and smartphone charging will work faster so you can actually use your phone for the day.
Don’t you panic though, those tappy dances might not work but here are some things you can do to slap your phone’s butt and get it charging faster.
1. Turn that darn thing off!
This is important stuff. We all want to fiddle with our phones while it’s still charging but you know what, it’ll charge faster if it’s turned absolutely off. Hit that power button and just leave it charging until you make your dashing exit for work or wherever it is handsome and pretty people go to.
But wait! I need to check on something, you say. Fine, then just turn off other extra stuff or maybe place your phone on Airplane mode, this will help shut off other battery chugging applications while you’re still charging.
2. Wall chargers are the way to go (sorry, USB charging).
This advice comes straight from Apple themselves. If you want a faster charge, head for the nearest wall charger instead of plugging your device into your computer via USB. The best practice is to use the USB cable provided along with the outlet charger. You get the best of both worlds.
3. Keep a cool head
This goes for you and your batteries. Always make sure you’re not subjecting your smartphone or device to torturous temperatures while they are charging. This will degrade your battery’s capacity and performance according to techs at Apple. Plugging the device and leaving it inside your car is a big no-no. It’s also best to take it out of any restrictive covering when charging, otherwise you’re simply baking your phone and slowly killing the battery in the process. Remember, replacement cell phone batteries are not cheap!
Or, if you're feeling brave, maybe you can try living without a phone altogether and see if you can survive! Some people do!
4. Take good care of that battery
Smartphones often use lithium-based batteries so if you feel like you’re not going to be using your smartphone for a while, plug it in for a charge at least once a month. Also, make sure to run it down to empty (same thing, once a month) before charging it. This will keep those fancy electrons electrified, ensuring a long life.
